This was my signature for many years and I still absolutely love this perfume, but please, for those who loves a heavy sprayer, have mercy on those who don’t want to smell 8 sprays on this on you in a closed small office with no windows for 8 hrs a day on long hot summer days, or any weather for that matter. First of all, if your skin happens to eat fragrance like mine, this isn't powerful enough to overcome it. But I just bought a small bottle of it and sprayed it once on my arm, and it is STRONG! I remember i have sniffed it long ago and didn't dislike it back then, as a matter of fact, i convinced my bro to purchase it, and he did, but now he is complaining that it's too heavy. I won it at Ebay and I was anxiously waiting to arrive to try it. I must admit, I'm so clueless that at the beginning I thought they sent me the wrong perfume and this was a men's fragrance. And Oh, how I detest Old spice and that white bottle (I love the bottle, to be honest). I have a very small bottle of this, because I only need a very small amount and it lasts all day..I adore it! She had a knack for making things elegant and was a great hostess.
I have a work colleague who does this and with Opium as well. It's a skin scent on me after about 20 minutes, but it does last a long time. I was patient, and waited for the perfume to settle down. I recall her story of lost romance, her one true love,a policeman. wooooow finally a real perfume not chocolat not strawberry not plum not candy and caramel The first notes are green and somehow not so pleasant but when it settles it becomes beautifull I have not had the vintage but this is so powerfull and potent big like I won't describe the notes here coz enough comment from others but I'm here to share what Obsession personally means to me.

I took a shower and sprayed 4 sprays on my shirt and my goodness this shit is strong. I have made this one of my signature scents along side my beloved beautiful. What’s pitiful is when you are a perfume addict such as myself, all you have too do is see perfume and most likely you end up in the perfume counter. He cuddles up into my sweater, breathes in, and lets out a loving sigh. It also works out because he wears Obsession for Men, so we smell great together when I choose this. I like scents to have a bit of a kick and this still does not disappoint.
I find it comforting and cozy in its spicy sweetness..I'm happy to say my husband actually loves this one on me, he likes so few of my classic fragrances! Remember hefty dose of this on a sweaty summer skin can be too much for others around. It's certainly unique and heavy, which is what I usually like. This is sensual, quite powdery animalic with hint of sweetness underneath spices, and citrus. the civet is shown as well with oakmoss, vetiver, musk, jasmines, and huge junks of amber. I blind bought it and was hoping to like it, but when I smell it I connect it with something bad, I don't know, maybe I have some kind of unconscious memory with a similar smell, but I don't like it at all, it's just not for me I just got Obsession on the mail this afternoon. The first time I got a whiff, I thought it was old lady like, pungent, very 1990's, and very gross. But lo and behold, a few hours later I got a whiff of the most warm, enveloping, inviting scent. I wouldn't wear it, as I feel it still is a bit dated, but I've sprayed it on super cold winter nights on my sheets to go to sleep. The phallic bottle shape also amused my younger self. I visited her home and the whole place smelled of Obsession, but not in an overpowering way..was as though she lit an Obsession scented candle. I'm now on the search for a vintage bottle to see how it differs. I never used to like obsession but lately I can’t help it. Starts a bit sharp and green, with echos of 'Safari' but soon mellows to a warm amber. There's a touch of plastic in there but nothing serious. But it's reasonably priced, so you can be generous!A pity, because I totally love the scent, so nice and different from modern fruity florals. Reading the reviews had made me believe that I would love this fragrance, but I just don’t. It is spicy but has a sweet side to it that doesn't work very well. I was expecting it to be spicier, but it is actually safe. My grandmother wore Opium, red door and this perfume when I was a kid and still kinda does. Interesting reading the reviews saying people wore this in high school and college; hard to imagine the 16-22 year old set rocking this nowadays, to be honest. I have a few others but these two are the ones I tend to reach for the most. a combination of Dana's Tabu and YSL's Opium Less spicy than Tabu Less smokey than Opium mixed in its own way for me this smells more oriental than both Tabu and Opium and nothing like Must de Cartier Md C has rosewood inside which is identical but anyway, a like for me for the price and the product i think this one is so classic Obsession was my signature scent for about 12 years, so I'm pretty sure I remember it quite well... I must have liked it then, but later I gave it up for CKOne- which my high school/college boyfriend liked. And from THAT my obsession veered from gourmand to vintage potions. Alright, time to buy Obsession, even if it's a cheap smaller bottle. The new one is thin with a nasty green-ness to it that stays about ten minutes.EDIT: Maybe something changed in my head or I'm just applying loads of it (6-8 sprays), but now I'm getting nice longevity. There is a cloying sweet note that permeates throughout the whole thing and it throws the composition way off balance. i think it can be a good introduction into spicy perfumes. I have been wearing Obsession since the 90's and it works great with my body chemistry. I get compliments on Obsession all the time, it lasts from morning until evening, and it's very inexpensive. I bought this again a few days ago and I must say I don't understand the complaints about the reforrmulation... I think I wore it because my best friend did, and she wore it because her older sister did. Then I spent many years with NO PERFUME (the horror) and out of the blue I asked for Fantasy for Xmas. ) Fantasy snow-balled into a full on, gourmand obsession... (not always a vintage concentration, but perfumes that have been around forever and smell like a different era) After buying Youth Dew and Tabu (both of which I wrote off and regret now. Hate it, and I hate that many never got to smell the original and call this atrocity wonderful. Unbeatable in sillage and longevity for me, Obsession, I spray on my bathrobe and I can still smell it 2 weeks later, I love the scent, but if you don't...would be very trying....For some reason every time I buy a bottle for myself I end up not liking it and end up selling it. If you buy vintage, probably it will be poor civet's musk (the animal had to be killed for the manufacture). When I first sprayed it, I thought I would not like it- the first sniff was a strong, powdery hit that I thought would turn into what I thought of as a "Bank of England" smell (edit: when I first wrote this review I didn't know about the conversations surrounding labeling fragrances that way). The ultimate in warm, comfort, cozy winter perfumes. I still want to try the new Obsession just out of curiosity. The problem is, I am not a fan of the initial green note upon spraying. I tested a sample of Obsession that I had and I instantly fell in love!I must get another bottle of this the one with the Gold ring around the top of the bottle that the good obsession the vintage is the best. but nowadays it is civetone and other synthetic compounds, so enjoy Obsession. However, it grew on me, though not sure yet if I will re-buy it once my current bottle runs out. I like Must since it does have the galbanium kick in the beginning (which I love) and I don't get anything green/herbal in Obsession. Why I have been ignoring such an amazing classic all of these years?? After a few minutes it becomes spicy and I smell something like cinnamon and cloves. The most warm, sensual vanilla ever, until the whole drydown of the perfume!I love this scent so much because the sweetness and spiciness and powderiness of it reminds me of YSL's opium(Hell of a nuclear). It just brings me back to my childhood during a special event when my mom wears this or Coco by Chanel.I have had people stop me in malls and various other stores asking me what perfume I am wearing. They say it doesn't smell anything like that on them. the green note disappears after five minutes and the Obsession DNA is still strong and powerful, but also sweet and warm, exactly as I remember it... I became obsessed with candy, sweet, foodie, yummy gourmands. Both scents need WINTER to come alive/get sweet/smooth... This is a spicy sweet chai masala, its Christmasy and also like a hot cross bun! First time I smelled obsession was on my aunt back in 1986.Very surprised that the rating on this fragrance isn't higher than it is. You do have to be careful when applying this one though. luckily winter lasts about 8 months here) I realized that Tabu most reminded me of Obsession... I'm still from that rural small town, so my purchases are almost always blind buys from ebay. I remember it was my first day of school;first grade to be exact, and I had missed the bus and she volunteered to take me.When I get paid soon I will be buying another bottle. Warm cinnamon, coriander, nutmeg, other spices, amber, and civet! I get sandalwood, cinnamon, and lime peels up front, then get vanilla, bitter orange, cedar, incense, and amber. Just smooooth sweet incense/syrup/vanilla/spices/cinnamon. I also smell something woody and slightly musky, but the vanilla dominates. Amazing for holidays, relaxing at home, winter nights out, dates, and sensual enough for personal moments :) Obsession was the first designer perfume I ever bought for myself. I currently have Four Vintage Bottles of Obsession, 1 being a .25oz of the Pure PARFUM in the Iconic "kidney bean" shaped bottle!! Almost from a Different Time, Like something CLEOPATRA would have bathed in to Seduce All her subjects or Even Further Back in Time...I went back too Kohl’s and bought my granddaughter the outfit that I forgot too get last nite. Obsession is such a sexy beast of a perfume I’m in love all over again. Good staying power and sillage, especially considering I'm using stuff that was open with no idea how it was stored. Spicy, sweet, warm, inviting, sensual and cosy scent. This could easily be the scent hor holidays and christmas! I haven't owned a bottle in years and recently picked one up. The opening is green and mossy and then the spices and smokiness start to develop. Plus 1 EDP and the Other Two SUPER Vintage "Cologne Spray" bottles with the Built In Sprayer... All The Way To EVE herself In The Garden of EDEN scented in the Fruit, Flowers, Incense and Spices of EDEN!I can appreciate the strength behind the vintage but I don't feel feminine when I wear it, I feel a bit self conscious and masculine and that says alot since normally I can rock a couple sprays of Youth-Dew and not give a damn what anyone thinks. Or covered in that awful burning rubber smell when a car has been running for ages. But, Youth-Dew is a feminine scent anyhow :) Vintage Obsession makes me think of red flannel and chest hair.. Couldn't wait to get it off and apply my Lou Lou again!
